Skin Rejuvenation

Is Thermage Right For You?

Linda wanted smoother, firmer skin. She had recently lost thirty pounds after following a sensible diet and exercise program. Now she felt ready to finish the job. She chose Thermage to do it, and she hasn’t regretted it since. She looks amazing.

What is Thermage? Thermage is a safe, non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses radiofrequency technology to help smooth and improve skin for an overall youthful appearance. In fact, Thermage is the only FDA-approved rejuvenating procedure that tightens skin and restores youthful contouring after just one treatment.

Thermage works magic pretty much everywhere. Thermage procedures can effectively and safely treat fine lines and wrinkles on most body parts, including the face, neck, eyes, stomach, arms, hands, thighs and buttocks. They can also smooth uneven, dimpled skin on the body and temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite. The best thing about Thermage? That results tend to be gradual and long lasting – sometimes lasting up to ten years!

Thermage Offers Something for Everyone

Thermage gets results.  Its unique radiofrequency technology has been proven to help improve the appearance of sagging or loose skin, giving skin a smoother, sleeker and younger look and feel. What’s more, Thermage works in just one treatment, and it requires little to no recovery time. The end result is natural-looking, and simply stunning. Thermage works wonders on nearly every part of the body, including:

Eyes

Thermage treats such problems of the upper and lower eyelids as hooding, frown lines and brow furrows to help you look more youthful and rested.

Face

Thermage smoothes lines and wrinkles and remodels collagen, helping to correct loose jowls and sagging skin.

Body

Thermage is a non-invasive way to smooth skin on the body. It even temporarily improves cellulite, reducing the appearance of crepe-like, sagging skin and unsightly bulges and dimples.

The best candidates for Thermage? People suffering mild-to-moderate skin laxity who do not need modification of muscle or fat underlying the skin. They ideally have only modest sun damage, and don’t smoke. Unfortunately, Thermage can’t do much for people with thick layers of underlying fat or excessively loose muscles because of its inability to remove fat deposits or tighten muscles.

The Amazing Science Behind Thermage

Thermage seems to work magic. But its magic is really a precise science. Thermage works by transferring heat to the epidermis, which not only encourages collagen production, but also tightens existing collagen. Electrical currents produced by Thermage’s radiofrequency technology cause collagen within the epidermis to contract and gradually reform.  This is why most people experience dramatic tightening and smoothing of the skin over the six months following treatment.

Thermage is unique in that it works from the inside out, meaning that the outer layers of the skin are minimally damaged. This means Thermage won’t interfere with your busy lifestyle. It requires little-to-no downtime, and results from a single Thermage treatment also tend to last for up to ten years.

What Happens During a Thermage Procedure?

A lot. But don’t worry; Thermage never keeps you tied up at the doctor’s office. Thermage procedures are simple, taking anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours, depending on the body area being treated. Prior to the procedure, your physician will typically administer local anesthesia, as well as an oral pain medication, to ease any discomfort. During the Thermage treatment itself, you’ll typically experience alternate cooling and heating sensations as the Thermage device penetrates the deeper layers of the skin. Your physician will usually monitor the heat intensity to maintain a tolerable comfort level. With each radiofrequency pulse—which only lasts a few seconds—collagen in the deeper layers of the dermis is heated just enough to trigger substantial remodeling and regrowth. At the same time, the skin is cooled using an integrated cooling system to prevent any damage to the surface.

Immediately following a Thermage procedure, you might experience minor swelling, redness, peeling, blisters, bumps or dimpling. Don’t worry too much, however: most of these side effects are rare, usually only occurring if the skin has been overheated. They tend to subside within 24 hours. Because the skin’s surface remains unaffected following a Thermage procedure, there are no specific aftercare instructions to follow, other than to use a SPF lotion regularly.

Though some people notice immediate results after a single treatment, most typically experience dramatic results in the two to six months following treatment. During this time collagen slowly starts to regrow and remodel. Best of all, results achieved through one Thermage treatment tend to last for several years, meaning you don’t have to worry about time-consuming maintenance treatments.

To Thermage or Not to Thermage

Definitely Thermage! But keep in mind that although Thermage is an extremely effective, non-invasive body and facial rejuvenation alternative to traditional cosmetic surgery, it does have its limitations. Most physicians agree that Thermage should be seen as more of a “preventative measure” to significantly slow down and reduce the natural collagen degradation that occurs with age. The best candidates for Thermage then are those folks with early signs of aging, slight acne scarring and moderate skin sagginess.

Thermage is also not effective on individuals with thick layers of underlying fat or excessively loose muscles. This is because Thermage can’t remove fat deposits or tighten muscles. Keep in mind too that, unlike with most traditional cosmetic procedures, results obtained with Thermage can sometimes prove unpredictable. In rare instances, people have seen little to no improvement in treated areas. Also, with Thermage there are no guarantees on how significant results will be. Individuals who are older than 50 or who want immediate results should consider a different procedure.

All things considered, most people find that Thermage’s benefits outweigh its limitations. This is especially true when Thermage is compared to other cosmetic procedures such as traditional facelifts or laser facelifts. Unlike these other procedures, Thermage is non-invasive, requires little downtime, and is less expensive. And remember that you typically only need one treatment to see lasting results—results that can last for up to ten years! Thermage can also be used on body areas such as upper arms, inner thighs, buttocks and stomach.

The verdict is clear: Whichever way you slice it, Thermage comes out on top. What are you waiting for? Thermage today.
